what's in a name
more than memories, apparently.
a lil PSA: for some reason, the muse dictated that this be from a guy’s POV. my apologies, for I’m rubbish at making people think my MC is a guy when I am, in fact, a girl.
I watched a girl run to another But didn't think of you; Just considered how one person Becomes less than half of two. But when her friend called out her name, I couldn't help but turn; It's a reflex I've developed That I haven't yet unlearned. That name could once light up my phone, The way it lit my world. The name I wrote to test my pen; Those letters, bold, unfurled. She had your name, but not your eyes, Or beautiful sunshine smile; She didn't have your way Of making time stop for a while. I'm such a fool for thinking You'll show up in someone's face; I'm just not sure what else to do To fill this empty space. I said I wasn't thinking of you, I guess that was a lie; But forgetting you's not easy-- I don't think I want to try.

The poor fellow!! 😭
This is lovely! It struck home, as my best friend and I just recently were forced to part ways, and it still hurts.
"I'm just not sure what to do to fill this empty space."
That is much of what I'm feeling, thank you.
